In 2017, I first found out about the Coiffure Award during my internship. Since then, I felt in love with hair photography.
Something I wanted to do for a while, Is sharing my work from previous shoots. As I really like to keep my portfolio up to date, some images got taken down on our website. So to keep them in memory, I really enjoy sharing them here with their story.
2018
What are the Coiffure Awards?
They also like to call it the Oscar award for hairdressers. And that is kind of what it is. From October till January, hairdressers making all kind of series for this award show. There are different categories they can sign up for. Which I will tell you further about in this blogpost.
The Concept.
Some hairdressers have a specific type of style in their hair (colouring) Nicole also has something that is always recognizable as her work. She mostly adds some stripes in her hair designs. So for this series, she also included her signature hair design style, and combined them with colourful popping colours. As for the photography, I found it important to work with a versatile background that I easily could change by changing the lighting on my scene. For this series, I put a coloured light on the background to create a pink hallow.
Nominations for the Coiffure Award
It always takes a while before you hear more information. Most shoots for the coiffure award starts around October and the images need to be submitted by the 1st of February. So hairdressers have enough time to create their concept, find models and colour them and then to do the shoot between October and January. Then after they submitted their images, they have to wait untill March I believe before they hear who are nominated.
Our Nomination
In 2018 our series got nominated and Nicole gave us a call Tom and I were just to enter our English Exams and asked the teacher if we were allowed to take the phone call, she said yes, and we couldn’t be more happy we screamed out of excitement and had to make the test right after, luckily we both got a 9 for this exam. It was our first series for the Coiffure Award and we got nominated right away.
