In this series, I’m going to take you along a shoot we did in the past. Bumi Bars was my first creative product client. They had me enjoy making creative product shots again. In this post, I take you along how so.

Something I wanted to do for a while, Is sharing my work from previous shoots. As I really like to keep my portfolio up to date, some images got taken down on our website. So to keep them in memory, I really enjoy sharing them here with their story.

Concept

When you study photography, the teachers make sure that you focus on making an approaching plan. Because I had that image of being that strict of making plans, I didn’t enjoy it that much any more. Until Bumi Bars contacted me about creating creative images. When they contacted me I felt the urge to create a concept and how to approach it. So we started making a concept for every soap block they owned.

Working with the ingredients

Especially in cosmetics/health care, it’s important to focus on some elements of the product. In this case we choose to do something with the colour of the product, working ton-sur-ton and the ingredients. Bumi Bars was a natural product. (unfortunately because of their success and they didn’t want to stop with their current jobs they decided to discontinue selling Bumi)

How we prepared for this shoot

So for this client we decided to work with colours that matched the products. We went to the construction market to get some MDF plates and paint. At Karwei (A Dutch construction market) they sell some 100ml paint samples. These are perfectly to paint a 122 cm x 61 cm mdf plate. For each product that they had, we saw a plate in half and painted both the same colour. The client brought the ingredients that matched with the products, and we were ready to shoot.
