Photography is a field that requires precision and attention to detail. Every aspect of the shoot, from the lighting to the framing, needs to be carefully considered, capturing the perfect image. A tether cable can be a valuable tool that can help photographers and clients achieve the best possible results.

What is a tether cable?

A tether cable is a cable that connects a camera to a computer. It allows me to view the images I’m shooting in real-time on a larger screen, which provides better visibility and allows for more accurate adjustments. Tethering can be done via a USB(-c) cable or a wireless connection (which is most of the time not really trustable, but something that has some eyes on it to become better in the futher)

What are the benefits of using a tether cable?

There are several benefits to using a tether cable for photography. Firstly, it helps to improve the accuracy of the images. When the images are viewed on a larger screen, it is easier to identify any issues or areas that need improvement. During the shoot, I can easily make adjustments, such as changing the lighting or adjusting the focus, to achieve the desired result. This results in sharper, more accurate images that better showcase the product. For me personally, especially, the focus is something that I find super important to keep a close eye on when shooting.

Faster workflow

Secondly, using a tether cable can result in faster turnaround times. With the ability to transfer images to the computer in real-time, it is easier to make already adjustments on set, which you don’t need to do afterwards. This is especially helpful for clients who may need the final images quickly, because they already can review some adjustments in, for example, colour on set. Which makes that you don’t need to go back and forth about these details. It also allows for a quicker turnaround time for any necessary reshoots, which saves both time and money.

Easier to communicate with your clients about any adjustments

A tether cable can help increase collaboration between both me and the client. You can view the images as they are being taken, which provides real-time feedback on the shoot. This allows the client to provide input and lets me make adjustments as needed, ensuring that the final images meet their expectations. This collaboration also helps to build trust between the client and me.

How does it improve the relation between me and a client

Tether cables can be a cost-saving measure. By using the tether cable, I can catch any issues early on, reducing the need for reshoots. This can result in significant cost savings, as they won’t have to pay for additional shoots or editing time. This makes it important for both me and the client, because it won’t cost us more time than necessary.

Why is a tether cable for a client so important?

Using a tether cable can help to improve the overall quality of the final images. By providing real-time feedback and adjustments, it is easier to capture the product in the best possible light. So there is less retouching time needed. This ensures that the final images are of high quality, which can help to improve the brand’s image, which hopefully makes sure that they attract more customers.

The downsides of using a tether cable.

However, there are some downsides to using a tether cable as well. Firstly, it requires additional equipment, a tether cable is being sold around 40 euro, in the Netherlands. (Sometimes it’s worth to take a look at our Neighbors in Germany, because they may be cheaper there) It can be cumbersome to set up, especially if we’re shooting in or on a location with limited space, or where we need to change positions all the time. It requires a computer with a special program to view the images. And when working on location, there is also the problem that the battery of your laptop run out of juice.

Conclusion about using a tether cable.

In conclusion, a tether cable can be a valuable tool for photography. It provides improved accuracy, faster turnaround times, increased collaboration, cost savings, and better quality final images. However, it does have some downsides that need to be considered. Overall, the benefits of using a tether cable far outweigh the disadvantages, making it a must-have tool for any professional photographer.

@lerinecoffee Home Collection. In December 2022, @lerinecoffee Home Collection.

In December 2022, I followed a Barista Training at LeRine. The training was so much fun!

During the training, we also talked about being an entrepreneur. After I came back home, I reached out to her because maybe we could help each other. She told me that she was in the process of making her own Coffee Mugs. Now fast-forward to November 2023, and she came out with her own Espresso and Cappuccino cups, which we photographed and retouched.

Pretty (Taupe) color, aren’t they?

For Coco & Cici, a bedding company, I photographed their collection of plaids. (And also a lot of bedding) But with this cosy fall day, I thought this would be the perfect post to come back to the gram. Let's try again to keep sharing.
