I’m writing this blogpost on 7 July 2023, and I just got a reminder on Facebook that I Facetimed Dominique to tell her that our work would be published in the August number of Beau Monde. We were beyond excited, and let me tell you a bit more about the shoot.
Something I wanted to do for a while, Is sharing my work from previous shoots. As I really like to keep my portfolio up to date, some images got taken down on our website. So to keep them in memory, I really enjoy sharing them here with their story.
2020
The Concept
Because the location was quite close to our home, in the old place of residence of Tom. We found it important to first take a glance at the location to better plan our shots. Luckily we did because the location is quite big and especially if you want to shoot a series, it’s nice to visit the potential shot locations in advance.
How did we get the location?
Tom, the production manager of Studio Taupe, used to live in a small village. Because they only have about 1125 residents it’s really a neighbour knows neighbour vibe. In Terwolde they have an estate with a B&B on it, the owners of the Mansion outsource the B&B to someone which used to be the mom of someone Tom used to go to school with. So he thought, why not contact her if we maybe can shoot there.
The Shootday
Luckily we had good weather on our shoot day, the bad news. It was 36 degrees out there!
So packed with a lot of cooling elements, fans and things to cool us off we headed for our shoot. We had a nice place in the shadow where we could do the make-up of the models. The shots look nice and dewy, but it’s not make-up it’s sweat, haha.
Set and go
We made sure that everything was ready as the model came on to set. So that the make-up had as little time to melt off their faces. Also, because we wanted to shoot in a greenhouse, where it was even hotter than 36 degrees! This made that we only could shoot there for a maximum of 5 minutes because it would be way too hot out there. Luckily, the results were totally worth it!
Publication in Beau Monde.
After that we did the shoot, and we were so happy with the results, I tried pitching our concept to various magazines. And already after a few days I got a response from Beau Monde that they would love to publish our work in their August edition. Right after I received the e-mail, I contacted Dominique that our series would be published in a magazine. (We both were screaming when Facetiming) It was so exciting to see our work in Print in the bookshops all around the city.
